Indy Councillor Ali Brown Statement on Equality Act’s Passage
The U.S. House just passed the Equality Act, which would add LGBTQ Americans — including 272,000 Hoosiers — to the nation’s civil rights laws. That means, LGBTQ Hoosiers would be protected from discrimination in housing, credit, education, and public accommodations.
Ali Brown – Indy City-County Councillor, District 5 – released the following statement celebrating the Equality Act and this opportunity for LGBTQ Hoosiers:
The Equality Act is more than just a moment to show LGBTQ Americans — including 272,000 LGBTQ Hoosiers — that we equal in the eyes of the law. It’s an opportunity to set an example for our LGBTQ youth and allies, and it’s a chance to show kids who may experience bullying or harassment that our country believes in them and loves them for who they were born to be. I couldn’t be more thrilled to see the Equality Act pass the U.S. House today, and we must do everything possible to ensure its passage in the U.S. Senate.” – Ali Brown, Indianapolis City-County Councillor, District 5
