Banks calls for firing of Journal Gazette editor, compares himself to John Lewis
On Saturday, Congressman Jim Banks personally attacked Journal Gazette editor Karen Francisco called for her firing, and compared himself to civil rights legend in a Facebook post after her criticism of him in voting to overturn a free and fair election.
I will never apologize for voting and fighting for election integrity and our democracy. My efforts on that front will continue next week when I introduce legislation to call for reforms to restore trust in our elections.
Jim Then went on to compare his work to that of civil rights legend and former Congressman John Lewis:
When my former distinguished colleague Democrat John Lewis voted the same way I did in 2004 based on similar concerns he had with the electoral process, Nancy Pelosi called it “Democracy at work”. I’m scouring comments from Karen Francisco and the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette to see if they ever attacked John Lewis or Nancy Pelosi for “violating their oath of office” but I’m coming up short.
Finally, Jim attacks Karen Francisco personally and calls for the Journal Gazette to “disassociate” themselves from Mrs. Francisco:
Instead, Karen Francisco – the very liberal editorial page editor of the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, who hates me, conservatives, and especially Donald Trump – accuses me of “inciting the riot” that overtook the Capitol on Wednesday.
The comments from Karen Francisco are dangerous and despicable. The Journal Gazette should disassociate itself from this irresponsible rhetoric.

Mr. Banks lives in another world, the world of Trumpism. He needs to resign and if not the voters of his district need to remember to tried along with President Trump to over throw the United States government.

The Journal Gazette is the best paper in the state. It actually covers the news. Francisco’s comments needed to be published. Inciting insurrection is wrong, and Mr. Banks is culpable for his actions.
