First DCCC Ad in IN-05: Spartz Used Her Political Position to Benefit Herself
Today, the DCCC released its first TV ad in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District, “Caught,” as part of a more than half a million dollar reservation in the weeks leading up to the election – further evidence that this race is one of the top Democratic pickup opportunities in the country.
The ad highlights Victoria Spartz’s record of using her political office to personally benefit, while leaving behind a jaw-dropping trail of unethical behavior and conflicting interests. Just last year, Spartz introduced legislation in the state senate that would remove state oversight of certain lands, despite having a “complicated history with [the subject which] she did not disclose” as her bill moved through the legislature. The complicated history? Her family had gotten tangled up by state oversight while planning a multi-million-dollar development on the same types of lands. Ethics and public policy experts decried Spartz’s move, saying she should have disclosed the conflict and that the entire situation “just smells funny.”
“Caught” will begin airing today throughout the district in the Indianapolis media market.
“Victoria Spartz is just another shady, self-interested politician who uses her political position to personally benefit,” said DCCC Spokesperson Courtney Rice. “Hoosiers deserve someone who will put their interests first, like access to affordable health care and rebuilding the economy – not increasing her and her family’s wealth.”
