Todd Young Describes INGOP Chairman, Trump Voters as Part of “Fringe Group”
he Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, bumped up the following interview where U.S. Senator Todd Young described Indiana GOP Chairman Kyle Hupfer and supporters of Donald Trump as being a part of a “fringe group”. During an interview with CNN, Young said this after being asked if he considered the January 6 Insurrection “legitimate political discourse”:
Todd Young at Marker 5:18: “I don’t know any American that regards [January 6] as ‘legitimate political discourse’. I certainly haven’t encountered them in the state of Indiana. That is a fringe group. We must make absolutely clear that that is a fringe group…”
The problem: INGOP Chairman Kyle Hupfer voted to call last year’s insurrection “legitimate political discourse”. This is also the second time in one year where Todd Young trash talked his own supporters, but first time attacking the head of the Indiana Republican Party. The Senator first described his supporters last year of having “anger and resentment” following the attack at the U.S. Capitol.
“Indiana Democrats have said for a while now that the Indiana Republican Party is the Culture War Party, and Todd Young just gave that a big stamp of approval by calling his own supporters a ‘fringe group’,” said Drew Anderson, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Democrats will share Young’s message as well as champion President Joe Biden’s economic agenda during ‘The Jobs Tour’ across Indiana. Bottom line is: Democrats deliver while Republicans divide.”
During “The Jobs Tour”, Democrats will also highlight Todd Young’s opposition to the American Rescue Plan and The Jobs Act. Hoosiers will also learn Senator Young put his political party’s opposition to Joe Biden before Indiana’s bright economic future.
