American Rescue Plan Paid for Governor Holcomb’s READI Program

The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today celebrated the transformational investments the American Rescue Plan is once again delivering for Indiana businesses and Hoosiers. Governor Eric Holcomb is expected to announce tomorrow which proposals from across Indiana will receive some of the coveted $500 million grant funding that will help address economic and community needs. These projects will transform towns and counties in all regions – and it’s solely because of the American Rescue Plan. Indiana Democrats like U.S. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan said “YES” to Holcomb’s READI program while every Republican in Indiana’s Congressional delegation said “NO”.

It’s also worth remembering: Governor Holcomb criticized the American Rescue Plan for so-called “penalizing” red states – despite Indiana not losing a dime in funding opportunities, including the $500 million for Holcomb’s own READI program. 

What’s worse, Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer and Indiana Republicans have called programs like Holcomb’s READI program “socialism” and a “boondoggle”. Indiana Democrats will remind Hoosiers all 2022 that Indiana Republicans said “NO”, called Holcomb’s READI program “socialism”, and still took the dough. 

“The American Rescue Plan and Indiana’s READI program is a prime example of what happens when bipartisan ideas create a better future for all Hoosiers. Thanks to the Rescue Plan, READI’s $500 million will bring transformational change for communities in all areas of the state — despite all Indiana Republicans voting ‘NO’ and describing the program as ‘socialism’,” said Mike Schmuhl, Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party. “The Indiana Economic Development Corporation calls READI an ‘anchor’ for the state’s economic future, and Democrats – not Republicans – delivered these investments when it mattered most. Indiana Democrats plan to campaign extensively on READI in 2022, and should Republicans continue to call READI a ‘boondoggle’ or ‘socialism’, we will make sure Hoosiers learn about their extreme partisanship and ‘NO’ votes at every opportunity.” 

Indiana Democrats delivered on the American Rescue Plan and this better opportunity for Hoosier families. The Party and its leaders plan to campaign extensively on the Rescue Plan, the state’s READI program, and The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act through the 2022 state and midterm elections. Hoosiers have a brighter future on the horizon, and it’s because Democrats – not Republicans – got this done for them.
