In light of the news that two IMPD officers have been indicted for assaulting Black Lives Matter protesters during an event in May, Indianapolis City-County Councillor Ali Brown issued the following statement:

“Watching a Black woman listen to law enforcement, follow the rules, and still experience physical assault by IMPD officers — all while being streamed live on social media — was a wake up call to many families here in Indianapolis. The justice system will ultimately run its course, but as the process unfolds, I believe an independent grand jury will be the best way to ensure that system levels the playing field. Brutality against Black men, women, and children must be stopped, and this news is a small, but helpful step in the right direction.” – Ali Brown, Indy City-County Councillor – District 5
