Indianapolis – The NFL today announced that Indianapolis Colts cornerback Xavier Rhodes has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 3. This marks the second time in his career that Rhodes has earned Player of the Week honors (NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 11 of the 2016 season).

In the Colts’ 36-7 win over the New York Jets, Rhodes compiled one solo tackle, two passed defensed and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown). On the opening drive of the game, he registered his first interception of the season and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown. In the second quarter, Rhodes recorded an interception in the endzone to prevent a New York scoring opportunity.

Rhodes has started all three games this season and has tallied three solo tackles, three passes defensed and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown). He is currently tied for the league lead in interceptions. Rhodes is a member of a Colts defense that ranks first in total defense (225.3 yards per game), first in pass defense (132.0 yards per game) and fourth in rush defense (93.3 yards per game).

Rhodes is the first Colts player to earn AFC Player of the Week honors this season and is the first Indianapolis cornerback to earn the distinction since Darius Butler in Week 9 of the 2015 season. In 2019, four Colts players won AFC Player of the Week honors.
