Williams Named ACC Running Back of the Week
RB Kyren Williams claimed the ACC Running Back of the Week honor Monday, awarded for his performance against Duke in the season-opener. Williams is the first Notre Dame Football player to ever earn a conference award, which comes after Notre Dame’s first conference game (1-0).
Williams posted an FBS-leading 205 all-purpose yards, including 112 yards on the ground and another 93 in the air. He led all FBS players in yards-per-reception (46.50) this week. Williams ranked second in rushing yards and fourth in receiving yards among all ACC players, also ranking third in the ACC in scoring (12 points) and second in total touchdowns.
The sophomore made his first-career start against Duke and eclipsed the 100-yard rushing plateau for the first time in his career. Williams was the first Notre Dame player since at least 1996 to reach the 90-yard mark in both rushing yards (112) and receiving yards (93) in a single game.
He rushed for two touchdowns and took a screen pass 75 yards, the longest pass play of the day on either side of the ball. In total, he marked down 91 yards-after-catch.
The Irish return to Notre Dame Stadium this Saturday to take on the No. RV USF Bulls (1-0) in their second-ever meeting. Coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on USA.
