INDIANA TEACHERS ENDORSE WEINZAPFEL FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL
Today Jonathan Weinzapfel, Democratic nominee for Indiana Attorney General, welcomed the endorsement of more than 40,000 Hoosier educators from across the state.
The Indiana State Teachers Association’s Political Action Committee for Education, an affiliate of the National Education Association, officially endorsed Weinzapfel’s candidacy for Attorney General.
“As a son of an educator, a parent, a former leader in higher education and as someone who cares deeply about the quality of education we are providing our kids, this endorsement means a lot,” said Weinzapfel, a former Ivy Tech Chancellor and Evansville Mayor. “There is no more important job out there than that of a teacher. And, as Attorney General I am going to do everything I can to support them as well as our students and parents.”
As Attorney General, Weinzapfel would use the bully pulpit of the office to create an environment where teachers are treated as professionals and paid as such, build a stronger educational system that focuses on educating and training young people for future success in college or in the workforce, and ensure greater accountability for all educational institutions.
Weinzapfel has a long record of supporting teachers and education. As a state representative, he supported increasing teacher pay, hiring more teachers and expanding collective bargaining rights. As mayor, Weinzapfel formed a highly successful education roundtable that lead to the creation of early education, mentoring and college affordability initiatives.
