Kat Hardwick, Independent candidate of Indiana State Representative District 69, releases a statement regarding State Representative Jim Lucas’s recent Facebook post:

“Since 2017, Jim Lucas, District 69 State Representative, has made statewide and national news multiple times for his racist, sexist, misogynistic, and victim blaming Facebook memes. In May of this year he was even sanctioned by his own party. And now he has posted a meme with a comment/quote comparing Kyle Rittenhouse to “good men who step up”. He lifts up this 17-year-old child, who, illegally possessing a firearm and with intention, went to a protest and killed two people and injured a third. He portrays someone who broke the law, resulting in death, as a hero and a good man. He throws gasoline on the already massive flames of violence and unrest that are raging in our nation. He consistently dismisses the very real existence of racial violence. He doesn’t encourage conversation or listening to get to the root of this unrest in order to make important and necessary changes,” said Hardwick.

“I wouldn’t expect him to encourage looting or destruction, but to say men should step up and take the law into their own hands is abhorrent and wholly irresponsible. This elected public servant encourages violence, murder, and utter disregard of the law. When is enough really enough with him? The people of District 69, and the state of Indiana, need leadership that will mend what is broken, not further divide us all,” Hardwick added
