The Indiana Democratic Party, the organization that advocates for the future of Indiana and its families, today asked Governor Eric Holcomb for a response of Hoosier Republicans voting to defund more than $350 billion from law enforcement across the nation, including Indiana. This federal program – which Indiana Democrats supported – was provided by President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan. Further, the “no” vote by Republicans in Indiana’s Congressional delegation further highlights a political party that lacks an identity and vision for the state — just an agenda full of extreme partisanship.

“Just like their arguments on taxesspending, and job creation, the Indiana Republican Party is once again caught in a lie, this time on giving our law enforcement agencies more resources to fight crime,” said Drew Anderson, spokesman for the Indiana Democratic Party. “Governor Eric Holcomb needs to speak up, because it appears Indiana Republicans are more focused on making political points and retaining power instead of creating a safer future for Hoosier families. Their actions further show that the Indiana Republican Party has no identity or moral compass, and how the Democrats’ record of delivering right now for Indiana is the winning strategy to move us forward.”

The Indiana Republicans’ fraudulent claims on policing follows their misinformation campaigns on government spending, taxes, and job creation. Indiana Republicans claimed Democrats will raise taxes on Hoosiers despite doing the same thing in the Indiana Statehouse. Republicans claim Democrats are spending too much in Washington despite ballooning the national debt by $7.8 trillion in four years. And Indiana Republicans claim they created a great state economy despite a record of losing “good jobs” and forcing Hoosiers to work more for less. The Indiana Republican Party has lost their identity and their extreme partisanship does nothing but divide Hoosier families and hold them back from a brighter future.

In contrast, Indiana Democrats are hard at work delivering for the state and its families. Congressmen André Carson and Frank Mrvan, Jr. voted for the American Rescue Plan, which allocated $350 billion to fund law enforcement agencies across the nation, provided more than $5.8 billion in relief to Indiana and its communities, and is using $250 million to expand broadband internet access across the state. The Rescue Plan is helping Hoosier families put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror, but it’ll be the American Jobs Plan that will take Indiana to the next level. The Jobs Plan will revitalize Indiana’s infrastructure, and Democrats are ready to create a better tomorrow for the state.
