Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales faced scrutiny in a House Ways and Means Committee hearing over hiring his brother-in-law for a six-figure salary, awarding over $300,000 in staff bonuses, and issuing no-bid contracts to campaign donors, writes NWI.com.

State Rep. Ed DeLaney (D-Indianapolis) repeatedly questioned Morales on nepotism and financial transparency, but Morales avoided direct answers, insisting hires were based on qualifications and defending his spending as necessary. DeLaney criticized Morales’ lack of accountability, calling it an “abject refusal” to be transparent. Despite the concerns, the Republican supermajority remained silent, offering no further questions.
