Tallian Taps Marion Co. Voter Registration Director Nyirendah as INDems Running Mate
On Tuesday, former State Sen. Karen Tallian (D-Ogden Dunes) announced Marion County Board of Voter Registration Director Alex Nyirendah as her running mate for Indiana Democratic Party leadership. Tallian will run for Chair and Nyirendah will run for Vice Chair.
Nyirendah, 36, is a 9 year veteran of the Indiana Air National Guard with extensive experience in Indianapolis politics. He has served as Director of the Marion County Board of Voter Registration since 2022.
Tallian said Nyirendah has a wealth of campaign experience and brings a new, younger generation to Indiana Democratic Party leadership.
“Alex is a brilliant leader who knows what it takes to turn out voters and win tough elections and I’m proud to have him as my running mate,” said Tallian. “As a veteran from a working class background, Alex can help Democrats reconnect with crucial voting blocs we’ve lost in recent elections and give a voice to a younger generation of Hoosiers.”
Prior to his appointment to the Marion County Board of Voters Registration, Nyirendah worked for the Marion County Democratic Party, and on the campaigns of Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, former United States Senator Evan Bayh and former President Barack Obama. He also has experience in a variety of non-political positions building community coalitions and as a Weather Forecaster for the Indiana Air National Guard. He currently lives in Indianapolis and is a father of three sons, two of which attend Indianapolis Public Schools.
Nyirendah said he is looking forward to continuing to serve the public and helping Hoosier Democrats as Indiana Democratic Party Vice Chair alongside Karen Tallian as Chair.
“As someone who has dedicated my life to public service, I am thrilled to take this next step and serve as our party’s Vice Chair,” said Nyirendah. “Karen and I are ready to get to work electing Democrats in all 92 counties of the state. Together we can rebuild the Party, strengthen our connection with working class voters and lead Indiana to a brighter future for me and beyond.”
The Indiana Democratic State Central Committee will elect a new Chair and Vice-Chair to a four year term at the reorganization meeting on March 15, 2025. The most recent copy of the Indiana Democratic Party’s official rules can be found here.
