The U.S. Supreme Court’s Plyler v. Doe ruling established that public schools cannot deny enrollment to undocumented students. However, House Bill 1394 proposes allowing schools to do just that, in direct violation of federal law, reports JG.net.

This bill is not only unlawful, but it’s also harmful. Denying education to undocumented students creates an undereducated population and has negative societal consequences. Additionally, arguments about the cost of educating these students are often unfounded, as undocumented immigrants also pay taxes.

House Bill 1394 should be rejected. It’s a clear defiance of the Supreme Court’s ruling and has no place in our legal system.
