Former Vice President Mike Pence is expected to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th president on Monday, despite their strained relationship since the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, where Trump supporters targeted Pence for refusing to overturn the 2020 election results. Pence’s attendance was reported by The New York Times, citing sources who noted he was invited by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, reported The Daily Beast.

The inauguration, moved indoors to the Capitol rotunda due to cold weather, will mark a rare public appearance together since their frosty meeting at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral earlier this month. While Pence reportedly shook hands with Trump, his wife, Karen Pence, appeared to avoid acknowledging him. It remains unclear if she will attend the event, while one confirmed absence is Michelle Obama.
