Governor Mike Braun issued nine executive orders upon his inauguration to reorganize Indiana’s state agencies, aiming to enhance efficiency and accountability through an “entrepreneurial” approach to governance. The centerpiece is the creation of a formal Governor’s Cabinet, which includes Braun, his chief of staff, the lieutenant governor, key state officials, and eight cabinet secretaries. This structure is designed to streamline operations by consolidating more than 100 state entities under defined “verticals,” each overseen by a cabinet secretary.

Braun emphasized that the reorganization will lead to clearer accountability, cost savings, improved oversight, and effective policy implementation, benefiting areas such as jobs, taxes, healthcare, education, energy, and public safety.

The additional executive orders establish eight secretaries tasked with assessing agency operations, identifying cost-cutting measures, reducing workforce where feasible, eliminating unnecessary regulations, and advancing the governor’s policy priorities. State entities are mandated to cooperate fully, with the changes set to remain effective until codified into law by the Indiana General Assembly.
