Bill to move casino gaming license to New Haven
State Senator Andy Zay has introduced a bill to allow Full House Resorts Inc. to relocate its gaming license from a riverboat in southeast Indiana to a $500 million entertainment complex in New Haven, according the Ft. Wayne Journal Gazette. The proposed development would include a 90,000-square-foot casino, a luxury hotel, a steakhouse, and a concert venue near U.S. 30 and Interstate 469.
Senate Bill 293, now under review by the Public Policy Committee, outlines tax revenue allocation, including property tax relief for New Haven residents and funds for public health and safety. The project promises significant economic benefits, including $80 million in annual taxes, over 2,400 jobs, and $685 annual rebates for homeowners.
While Mayor Steve McMichael supports the plan, citing potential property tax relief, some, like State Senator Liz Brown, oppose it, raising concerns about addiction and crime. The bill’s fate depends on approval by the Indiana General Assembly and Governor.
