Texts Supporting Mike Braun Sent to Intimidate Voters, Spread Disinformation
Less than 24 hours ahead of election day, texts supporting Mike Braun have been sent to Indiana voters in an attempt to intimidate them and say how they vote is public.
The message, which is pictured below, states that a voter’s friends and family members will be able to view who an individual voted for. This is false. Whether or not someone votes is public, but the candidate they choose is always private information.
“To purposefully spread fake information regarding the status of a voter’s privacy, especially so close to the election itself, is voter intimidation,” said Indiana Democratic Chair Mike Schmuhl.
“Mike Braun’s supporters are unethically pushing this rhetoric as a way to instill fear in voters. Recent efforts to ensure that women, as well as all voters, know that their vote is private has ignited fury and fear among those close to Braun, but let us be clear: your vote is your vote alone. No one can view who you vote for, and certainly no one has the right to force any choice upon you at the ballot box.”
