Welcome back to The Indiana Democratic Party’s weekly series called We Listened So You Don’t Have To: The Micah Beckwith Weird Weekly Roundup, which serves as a one-stop-shop that summarizes all the weird, offbeat, and simply gross things Mike Braun’s running mate Beckwith says. Prepare yourself people: It gets weird over there. Bonus: At the end of every Roundup, we’ll include the cherry on top, AKA that week’s weirdest moment.

Remember, Braun said on the convention stage in June, according to POLITICO’s Adam Wren, about his running mate Beckwith: “Everything you believe in, I have as well.”

This edition’s items include (and we’re sorry in advance):

  • Beckwith dedicated an entire Facebook post to a disagreement between him and Elkhart Democratic Councilman Aaron Mishler (note: Beckwith struggled with the spelling in his post). Micah, maybe instead of picking fights with local politicians you should focus on how to work with them, y’know, since you’re running for LG and all.
  • It seems like there’s trouble in paradise. During a Republican Party meeting, Beckwith said that if elected lieutenant governor, he would fire any employee with pronouns listed in their email signatures. Mike Braun shot this down, saying employment under his administration would be determined by merit alone. Mike and Micah disagree for the first time?
  • An article from The Hill described how FEMA workers were threatened in TN as a result of rampant disinformation from politicians like Beckwith who say the organization is using funds to help undocumented immigrants. Telling lies hurts people, Micah. It’s almost like this is kindness for kindergarteners 101, or Leviticus 19:11.

And the cherry on top?

Comments Beckwith made in 2019, 2020, and 2022 have resurfaced, in which he asserts that abortion is akin to the Holocaust and the practice of slavery. AJ News published some of the comments, which read as follows:

  • “The devil is still in the business of deceiving foolish people that some lives are less than human. In 1944 Jews were less than human. Today infants are less than human.”
  • “Abortion is no different than Slavery,” Beckwith wrote. “They each devalue another human life.”

In another post from his failed run for Congress in 2020, he also pledged to defund Planned Parenthood in Indiana and across the nation. “I am a conservative outsider, not beholden to the way it’s always been done. In Congress, I’ll defund Planned Parenthood once and for all, not only in Indiana, but across the country.”

There you have it, Hoosiers. Micah Beckwith trivializes slavery, and thinks letting women control their own bodies is akin to the Holocaust. In light of these harmful beliefs we ask you: Should this man be a heartbeat away from the Governor’s office with the oldest governor ever elected?
