Republican Governors Association Confirms Mike Braun Floundering in Indiana’s Close Gubernatorial Election
The Indiana Democratic Party released the following statement on the Republican Governors Association putting over $1 million into Indiana’s gubernatorial election in the last week.
The move comes after the Democratic Governors’ Association made a $600,000 investment in the race just days earlier. Multiple polls over the past weeks have shown the race within just a few points and many predictors have changed their outlooks in recent days.
From The Center for Politics earlier today:
“Put a bit differently, Indiana seems to be emerging as Democrats’ best red state offensive opportunity, so it seems to merit a position at the edge of the playing field, even as Braun remains clearly favored.” (The Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, 10/9/2024)
The race has also been moved into the competitive category by multiple outlets, including Inside Elections, Sabato’s Crystal Ball, and CNalysis.
“It’s clear that national Republicans are waking up to what Hoosiers have known for some time: this race is close, and Indiana is ready for change after 20 years of Republicans being in charge,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl. “Mike Braun thought he could coast to victory, but the Jennifer McCormick momentum is real and this is more proof that Indiana will have one of the closest gubernatorial elections in the country this year.”
“Hoosiers have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to elect Jennifer McCormick to the governor’s office, and bring balance and commonsense to the Statehouse. Jennfier is focused on the issues that matter to Hoosiers: high-wage jobs, healthcare access, cannabis legalization, and accountability and transparency for an out-of-control Republican supermajority state legislature that cut care for disabled Hoosier children after running up a $1 billion Medicaid shortfall.”
