Jennifer McCormick Wins First Debate in Indiana Governors Race
Tonight, Indiana Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jennifer McCormick made her clear and compelling case to Hoosier voters for restoring common sense and balance to Indiana government, winning the Nexstar Media Indiana Gubernatorial Debate broadcast from Indianapolis.
“For over a year, I’ve been traveling Indiana, visiting all ninety-two counties, and talking to Hoosiers about our commonsense plans to restore balance to Indiana government,” McCormick said. “Tonight, Hoosiers saw the stark contrast between Mike Braun and Micah Beckwith’s out-of-touch extremism and our commonsense plans for helping all Hoosier families.”
McCormick and Braun debated for an hour from the FOX-59/CBS-4 studios in Indianapolis in a debate broadcast statewide. Topics covered included abortion, Indiana’s economy, and education. The contrast on each was clear. On abortion, McCormick continued to advocate for a restoration of commonsense abortion laws, in contrast to the Braun/Beckwith support for Indiana’s radical abortion ban.
“Hoosiers saw that I trust women and their doctors to make the best decisions for their health,” said McCormick. “Mike Braun supports Indiana’s extreme abortion ban, and his running mate wants to take it even further; it’s time we bring common sense and balance back to our state policies.”
The most dramatic moment of the debate came when Mike Braun refused to disavow his falsified ad still running on Indiana television stations. McCormick’s response in the debate harkened back to her time as a classroom teacher and principal.
“When I was an elementary principal, I learned what you do as you admit when you get something wrong, and you own it and you apologize,” said McCormick. “The third step would be to call home. I’m not calling home. The step one and two can certainly be done from an adult, and so I’m happy to wait on that apology.”
McCormick and Braun will meet on the debate stage again tomorrow at 6:00 PM in the All Indiana Politics Indiana Governor Debate, hosted by WISH-TV and airing statewide. Libertarian Candidate Donald Rainwater will also participate in that debate.
