Welcome back to The Indiana Democratic Party’s weekly series called We Listened So You Don’t Have To: The Micah Beckwith Weird Weekly Roundup, which serves as a one-stop-shop that summarizes all the weird, offbeat, and simply gross things Beckwith says. Prepare yourself people: It gets weird over there. Bonus: At the end of every Roundup, we’ll include the cherry on top, AKA that week’s weirdest moment.

This edition’s items include (and we’re sorry in advance):

  • On September 15, Micah took to X to decree that Democrats were at fault for the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life. Let’s be clear: Democrats have long condemned political violence as have Republicans. Micah, we invite you to join us.
  • In the same vein, Micah spoke to WISH-TV regarding his belief that the entire Democratic Party was responsible for the attempts: “This is Democrats shooting Republicans.” This rhetoric is not becoming of someone who wants to serve all of Indiana as a statewide elected official. Not only does he assert the claim with no proof, he uses it to push a narrative that only divides our communities and makes neighbors enemies.
  • On September 17, Micah posted a Tweet saying Democratic rhetoric had gone too far. Trump urged people to storm the capital but sure, that wasn’t harmful at all. Beckwith even said the rioters were sent by God.

And the cherry on top?

In his first podcast episode in over a month, Beckwith sat down to discuss the recent Presidential Debate, and before you ask, yes, he reasserted that cats and dogs are being eaten:

“The Haitian immigrants, illegal immigrants, aliens, are in Springfield, Ohio, right now, they’re busing them to Springfield, Ohio, and these immigrants — they don’t speak English, they’re not assimilated into the culture — they’re doing exactly what they did back home in Haiti, and they’re just catching animals and killing them and eating the animals.”

This othering, exclusionary language has no place in a nation born on the backs of immigrants. When we demonize entire groups of people based on racial stereotypes, we push ourselves away from ever creating a state or a nation that is capable of thriving. As Americans, we deserve better.
