INDems Statement on Victoria Spartz’s Investigation Regarding Alleged Staff Abuse
Reporting from POLITICO has revealed that U.S. Representative Victoria Spartz (R) is currently being investigated by the House Ethics Committee for allegedly abusing her staff and misusing taxpayer resources.
In the article, one was quoted as stating, “The common thing is for her to call someone up or to their face, cuss them up, say the F-word about a million times, call them effing retards, effing children, effing whatever. That’s a weekly thing. It’s not rare. All my interactions with her have been filled with complete and total rage.”
These allegations come as no surprise given that Spartz has one of the lowest staff retention rates on Capital Hill, according to nonpartisan group Legistorm. The staff turnover rate for her office is 3.5 times more than the average U.S. House office.
Spartz came under fire for the first time for staff abuse in 2022 when POLITICO published an article detailing how staff was “trauma bonded” as a result of Spartz’s “manic” behavior.
“Congress would simply not be able to function without the help of a litany of staffers, aides, and advisors. These are the people who work behind the scenes on constituent service and shaping American policies and laws,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Mike Schmuhl.
“Victoria Spartz should not be allowed to behave in such a disgraceful and abusive manner towards the individuals who support her. The fact that this has been occurring over time with no remedy is incredibly disappointing, and it is time that something changes. Central Indiana deserves representation that is reflective of the empathetic, kind, and hardworking people that live there.”
