IDP Mourns With Fort Wayne Community After Passing of Cindy Henry
The Indiana Democratic Party is today mourning the passing of Fort Wayne First Lady – and lifelong Democrat – Cindy Henry after her courageous battle with cancer.
“We send our deepest condolences to Mayor Henry, their children Elizabeth and Ben, the entire Henry family, and the Fort Wayne community on Cindy’s passing,” said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Schmuhl. “I was so grateful to have the opportunity to know Cindy. She was someone who brightened every room she entered. At a time when politics can seem pretty dark and negative, Cindy made politics and campaigns so much fun. She loved people and she loved the Indiana Democratic Party. She will be deeply missed, but her wonderful laugh will live on.”
Her entire life, Cindy believed in bettering Fort Wayne, and building a stronger Democratic Party. Just last year at our annual Hoosier Hospitality Dinner, and again at our annual IDEA Convention in French Lick, we awarded our 2023 Democrat of the Year Award to Cindy for her service as a member of the Democratic National Committee, State Central Committee member, delegate to the national convention, Vice Chair of Allen County, and her years of building a stronger party in Northeast Indiana and around the state. Our party is so much stronger because of her years of service.
Below is the statement released today by the Henry family:
“Cindy Henry passed away peacefully Saturday evening surrounded by her family. Cindy had a caring heart, a loving spirit, and an infectious laugh. Her contributions to our community are immeasurable, and her family and friends will miss her. Mayor Henry and his family thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers, but also ask for privacy as they both grieve and celebrate the life of their beautiful Cindy.”
