INDems Statement on SCOTUS Rejecting Republican-Backed Case to Change Federal Elections
On Tuesday June 27, SCOTUS released its 6-3 decision in the case of Moore v. Harper, which rejected the so-called “independent state legislature” theory. Chief Justice John Roberts authored the majority opinion.
The Indiana Democratic Party released the following statement after today’s ruling:
“Independent state legislature theory remains a fringe interpretation of the Constitution. Republicans use it to push their anti-democracy agenda to take the power to decide elections away from voters and put it in the hands of gerrymandered state legislatures,” said Democratic Party Chairman Mike Schmuhl. “We applaud the court for its common sense decision today and encourage all Hoosiers to strive for an Indiana where there is more balance and fairness at every level of our government.”
