Initial filings for unemployment benefits in Indiana declined slightly last week, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor. The state reported 2,517 new jobless claims for the week ending March 29, a decrease from 2,550 claims the previous week. These claims serve as an indicator of layoffs and suggest a minor improvement in Indiana’s job market conditions.

Nationwide, unemployment claims also fell, with 219,000 new filings recorded last week—6,000 fewer than the previous week’s 225,000, based on seasonally adjusted figures. Among the states, Kentucky experienced the largest percentage increase in claims, with a sharp 114.9% rise, while Nebraska reported the largest percentage decrease, with claims dropping by 33.9%.
