Angela Elliott, candidate for Indiana State House – District 93, today joined the chorus of Hoosiers in calling for Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Republican Party to denounce and rescind their support for their Republican nominee John Jacob for his incessant attacks against religious freedomin the State of Indiana. In a story published by the IndyStar,Jacob refused to apologize for using debunked information found on conspiracy theory websites to attack Hoosiers who openly practice Catholicism and Muslim religions across Indiana.
So far, Governor Holcomb, House Speaker Todd Huston, and the Indiana Republican Party have thrown their heads in the sand by refusing to denounce this behavior that’s unbecoming from a candidate for state office.
Angela Elliott provided the following response:
“Throughout this campaign, John Jacob has made it clear he would run a race using political rhetoric that’s only meant to divide Hoosier families and pit us against one another. This rhetoric is simply disqualifying, and it’s the responsibility of Governor Eric Holcomb, House Speaker Todd Huston, and the Indiana Republican Party to denounce this rhetoric and hold Jacob accountable for his attacks on religious freedom in Indiana.
It’s alarming to me that Jacob’s extreme and disruptive behavior at the statehouse could be a permanent talking point for the Republican Party and our state. I have faith that, if informed, Hoosier voters will put our district and our state ahead of party politics for this election. Equality for All has been part of my platform from the beginning of my campaign and that includes respecting and appreciating every person’s right to worship freely. With all that’s currently happening in these uncertain times, it is more important than ever that voters be able to trust their elected leaders with their hard-earned tax dollars at the statehouse and that leaders show all Hoosiers the respect and decency ingrained in the values of the Hoosier State.”
