There is no debate: the deadly January 6th Capitol insurrection was an “attack on Congress by mob rioters,” and as such “a fact-finding mission would be prudent,” according to GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy.

That was before McCarthy changed his tune and decided to side with extremists in his party who seek to cover up the truth about what happened on January 6th.

Now, Rep. Victoria Spartz has joined McCarthy in attempting to bury the truth, voting against bipartisan legislation that would establish a commission to investigate the violent January 6th insurrection in which a police officer died defending the Capitol and the lives of hundreds of Members of Congress and staff.

Tonight’s ‘no’ vote is a new low for Rep. Spartz, who has chosen to side with members like Rep. Andrew Clyde who recklessly compared the insurrection to “tourism.” By voting against a bipartisan deal that was brokered by Rep. Spartz’s GOP colleague and endorsed by the Problem Solvers Caucus, Spartz has once again shown that she is too extreme for the people of Indiana’s Fifth Congressional district. Her vote came moments after a group of Capitol Police officers released a letter expressing “profound disappointment” in Republicans’ position and slamming Members of Congress who downplayed the insurrection.

“The January 6th insurrection was an incredibly dark day for American democracy, but Rep. Spartz would rather whitewash the deadly events than pursue the truth,” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Tonight’s vote is the latest sign that Rep. Spartz doesn’t believe her constituents deserve to know the truth about what happened on January 6th and only cares about toeing the line for Kevin McCarthy and Donald Trump.”
